Welcome to BarterLocal. By accessing our platform, publishing listings, or participating in mutual exchanges, you agree to comply with the terms and community rules outlined below.

Mutual Respect

Every participant contributes to neighborhood trust. Honor agreements, arrive on time, and communicate transparently.

Zero-Cash Economy

Transactions are facilitated through direct item barter, skill swaps, temporary borrowing, or community time credits.

Safety First

Meet in well-lit public places and inspect items thoroughly prior to confirming handovers.

1User Eligibility & Account Security

You must be at least 18 years of age or possess legal parental or guardian consent to use BarterLocal. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and all activity conducted under your account. Providing false identity information or impersonating neighbors is strictly prohibited.

2Listing Accuracy & Prohibited Items

When publishing listings, you agree to accurately describe the condition, functionality, and availability of items or skills. The following categories are strictly prohibited on BarterLocal:

  • Firearms, weapons, or explosives
  • Prescription medications & drugs
  • Counterfeit or stolen merchandise
  • Hazardous chemicals & flammables

3Lending & Borrowing Responsibilities

When borrowing tools or equipment:

  • Borrowers must use items with due care and solely for their intended purpose.
  • Borrowers must return equipment at the agreed date, clean and in the same condition as received.
  • In the event of accidental damage or loss, borrowers and lenders are expected to resolve repairs amicably or escalate to community dispute mediation.

4Community Credits & Moderation Arbitration

Community credits represent non-monetary participation units designed to facilitate reciprocal favors within our network. Credits have no monetary cash value and cannot be redeemed for fiat currency. In the event of an irreconcilable dispute, community moderators retain authority to arbitrate exchanges, adjust credit balances, or suspend non-compliant accounts.

BarterLocal operates as a coordination and matchmaking platform for peer-to-peer exchanges. We do not inspect physical items, verify independent professional certifications, or supervise private meetups. Users engage in exchanges at their own risk and agree to hold BarterLocal and its operators harmless from claims, damages, or disputes arising from peer transactions.
